The Spirit Wrestler Gallery with Douglas & McIntyre Publishers and the University of Washington Press are pleased to announce the release of Seekers and Travellers: Contemporary Art of the Pacific Northwest Coast completing the trilogy that began in 1994 with Spirit Faces: Contemporary Masks of the Northwest Coast followed by Mythic Beings: Spirit Art of the Northwest Coast in 1999.

First Nations poles, masks, robes and regalia are among the most storied and distinctive artworks in North America, and Seekers and Travellers showcases some of the best of these from thirty-six of the most acclaimed artists from both sides of the Canada/U.S. border. From wood carvings by Susan Point and Robert Davidson to weavings by Isabel Rorick and Teri Rofkar, from glasswork by Preston Singletary to metal jewelry by Shawn Hunt, this stunning collection reveals the breadth of contemporary Northwest Coast art.

Structured to highlight the dynamic shifts in First Nation Art over the past ten years, Seekers and Travellers begins with traditionally inspired pieces representative of a particular region or culture, moves through art influenced by techniques and stories of many First Peoples in North America and beyond and culminates with works that blend tradition with modern interpretations, themes and materials. Each artwork is accompanied by an artist statement that places it in the context not only of the artist’s oeuvre but of contemporary Northwest Coast art. The result is a visually rich, evocative collection that is sure to enlighten, inspire and amaze.
