Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia

The Salish Weave Collection is pleased to have found a Legacy partner in Simon Fraser University to which two large scale sculptural artworks by Susan Point, on loan since 2010, were donated in 2018.

Written into the Earth is an artist proof of cast aluminum and red cedar panels; the original cast bronze medallion sculptures were commissioned by and installed at First and Goal Inc. in Seattle, WA.

Blue Herons consist of three panels originally commissioned by the City of Richmond, British Columbia for the Olympic Skating Oval. Each carved panel was cast in concrete five times in the exterior buttresses of the building.  Afterwards, the original carvings were refinished and painted and became the prized acquisition of the Salish Weave Collection.

Written in the Earth and Blue Herons are part of ímesh: Indigenous Art Walk, an application for Apple iOS mobile devices launched by Simon Fraser University in 2016. This downloadable application offers a self-guided walking tour of Indigenous Art at SFU that describes each work and provides contextual information.
