Artist/Curatorial Statement
Stanley Park is a 1,001-acre public park that borders the downtown of Vancouver and is almost entirely surrounded by waters of the Pacific ocean. It was Vancouver’s first park when the city incorporated in 1886 and was named after Governor General Lord Stanley.
In December 2006, a devastating windstorm struck Stanley Park. The storm leveled 41 hectares of forest, causing extensive damage to the Seawall. The public concern for the park resulted in a level of financial and in-kind support that made the $10-million restoration achievable. Susan Point contributed to the fund raising efforts by publishing these two prints.
In 2008, People Amongst the People, three carved and painted red cedar portals were installed to welcome visitors to the Brockton Point Visitor Centre and to the traditional lands of the Coast Salish people.
