Artist/Curatorial Statement
In Memory of Wyse Woman was printed to commemorate my grandmother's life as the spiritual caregiver for my family but also to show respect for all women of wisdom worldwide. My grandmother, Doris Josephson, came from the Wyse family of the Snuy’ney’muxw nation and she was a source of inspiration for all who met her until her passing in August of 2006. Doris came from the Frog Clan and this is why I used a frog for this image. That fact that she came from the Wyse family, made for an easy play on words to point to her tremendous wisdom.
