Artist/Curatorial Statement
Traditionally, Coast Salish culture was matrilineal; names were passed on through the women. Women also played a very important part in the passing down of traditions. My late Aunt Helen, who gave me my Indian name, was the most knowledgeable person in our family when it came to Salish culture and traditions. This print is a tribute to my late Aunt Helen but also to all the wise female leaders in the world.
