Artist/Curatorial Statement

Song of Serpents is a circle design in the spirit of the drum. The face in the center is singing; eyes closed, mouth open. As spirit guardians, the serpents circle the human.

In keeping with the Coast Salish spiritual tradition, the depiction of the serpent is visually vague and ambiguous and may not be recognized by the viewer. This technique helps to retain the power of the guardian spirit.
