Artist/Curatorial Statement
I was fortunate enough to view 26 grizzly bears in the wild while driving through Western Canada. The experience sparked my interest in their situation within our ever-changing environment. Where once grizzlies roamed freely over large territories, now in some cases, only their memory remains. Not only is their space becoming an urgent issue, but illegal poaching and over-hunting also threaten the population. Hunters insist the bears are abundant and that they need to be harvested whereas government censuses paint a much bleaker picture. This print shows the grizzlies’ fading presence upon the landscape.
