This article is intended for discussion in Social Studies classes. It echoes Chief Thomas’ interviews when he spoke about being a Water People; the Sacred Trust between Salish peoples, Salish lands and ceremonies; and the original names of the five territories within Salish home lands. Second, the article asks that you think about the modern implications of the 1850 Treaty signed by Salish ancestors (with James Douglas) especially the section “hunting and fishing as formerly.”
