Guardian Spirit

Artist/Curatorial Statement

In the spirit of Coast Salish spindle whorls, this circular design depicts a guardian spirit dancer encircled by his guardian spirit. The movements of his dance and the words of his song subtly suggest the source of his power: his guardian spirit. In keeping with Coast Salish guardian spirit tradition, the bird is rendered ambiguously to protect his power and leaves the specific species up for interpretation by the uninitiated.
