Artist/Curatorial Statement
Traditionally, Coast Salish people did not have full-sized totem poles. Instead, they designed welcoming figures to decorate their house posts. Like totem poles, the house posts represent family crests or events that had taken place in the past. This design is a contemporary take on the traditional house posts; represented by ravens.
