This site and video explore the legend of LAU, WELNEW, a Vancouver Island mountain that the Saanich First Nations hold as sacred. Traditionally known as The Place of Refuge, it was the high point of land where the WSÁNEC People went to survive the Great Flood. LAU, WELNEW is also known as Mount Newton and it can be accessed through John Dean Provincial Park on the Saanich Peninsula, north of Victoria British Columbia.
