Legacy Art Galleries at the University of Victoria
In 2012, following the renovation of the Cornett Building, the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Victoria dedicated this space to contemporary Coast Salish art. Salish Weave supported this project of a permanent Salish art display by donating Box Set I prints and Spirit Guardians, a large sculptural work by acclaimed Coast Salish artist Susan Point. The university’s Legacy Art Galleries successfully applied to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board and Spirit Guardians became the first sculptural work of Salish Weave to meet the Act’s criteria of “outstanding significance and national importance”.
In 2015, the implementation of the Salish Weave succession plan included the donation of 51serigraphs to the University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries to augment its collection of contemporary Salish art.
